Business Packages:

Choose the animals required for your package from our "Sales List".

Package 1:

(Entry level package)

Any four animals selected as a package from the "under $5,000" sales list. Package receives complimentary 10% reduction in service fees for the following breeding season and a further 10% reduction in the total package price.

Package 2:

Two or more animals selected, totalling over $10,000 & under $20,000. Package receives complimentary 15% reduction in service fees for the following breeding season.

Package 3:

Two or more animals selected, totalling over $20,000. Package receives complimentary 30% reduction in service fees for the following breeding season.

Note: The animals in our packages can be made up of either Suri packages, Huacaya packages or a combination of Huacaya, Suri and/or first crosses, coloured or white.

Supreme Sires and Stud Males

We have two streams of Suri and Huacaya males. We have the genetics to assist your herd improvement.
Currently working at stud is Pucara Halcyon (suri), and Tambo Downs Fernando (suri) as our Supreme lines.

Halcyon is a magnificent white lustrous suri male by ILR Helado and dam, ILR NGG Pperuvian Geneve.

Fernando is a highly lustrous suri, with a well pencilled fleece, by one of our top females - Pucara Chicatita and sired by Pucara Allegro.

Tambo Downs Bounty (suri) was 1st at the Melbourne Royal and 2nd at the National Show in '03. He is a very well boned, well pencilled and finely fleeced animal. His dam is Surilana Sophia and sired by Pucara Allegro. He is commencing work now.

We have Meadow Creek Kaeulani, a fawn Suri male in our stud line sired by ILR Bentley (LF) Suri and dam, ILR Peruvian Chambray (SW) Suri. His progeny are now on the ground, he is producing very nice first crosses.

Tambo Downs Ferrera (suri) is a mahogany red, His dam is Tambo Downs Bolivian Francesca and sired by ILR Bentley. He is a great choice for coloured suri or first crossing coloured huacaya. He is working well and commencing early '05.

Pucara Shackleton (huacaya) - white male. His dam is Purrumbete Brittania, out of Purrumbete Showpiece and Titus Salt. Shackleton's sire is ILR Legend. Shackleton's features are high density and terrific handle.

KC Cactus Jam (huacaya) - white male. His dam is Purrumbete Mystery and sire is Merungle Hot Chili. Cactus has blue eyes and we bought him specially with the breeding purpose of putting him to our black females to produce grey. His fleece is very fine in crimp and micron.

Mating fees for Pucara Halcyon $1,100 for Suri mating and $770 for crossings with Huacaya.

Mating fees for stud stock - Kaeulani, Ferrera, Shackleton and Cactus Jam are $770. We are negotiable with prices to meet different circumstances, such as multiple services and travel.

Our stud has access to the genetics of 10 supreme males, Suri and Huacaya, white and coloured and we have the offspring of these animals on farm.

These genetics include Huacayas and Suris - Shanbrooke Rasputin, Talaco and Elprado.

Supply and Demand - Who buys Alpacas?

The population of Alpacas in Australia in 2002 is 80,000 animals. Although it is small in number it is the second largest herd outside Peru, next to the USA.

Alpacas have a long gestation period of 11½ months and single births. The importing process is quite difficult, risky and expensive.

Many of the Australian breeders export animals to the established countries of USA, Canada, New Zealand and UK. Some of the more recent countries to invest in Alpacas are Japan, France, Italy, Germany and Israel.

Suri and boy

Australian demand for Alpacas has increased as a result of the growing interest in Alpacas by a wide range of investors and from many walks of life. Alpacas are a source of income and always a source of pleasure. Young couples with children might own three or four Alpacas and enjoy caring for them. Retired couples moving to the country with a lifestyle change become owners. The family whose members include a hand spinner might own two or three animals for fibre production. A number of breeders are working couples who tend their herd in the evening after work. Many large breeders are professionals that have taken a redirection in life and along with traditional full time farmers, breed Alpacas either solely or part of their farming practice. Some investors live in the city and are building their herd towards the day that they change careers or retire to the country. Many of these agist with established Alpaca studs such as Tambo Downs. Others purely agist for the financial returns that Alpacas provide, is seen as an adjunct to their investment portfolio. Alpacas are easy to farm and manage and provide excellent investment returns.
